Hey guys,
Since Yahoo! is really on the ball this year they have opened league registration already, which allows us to use their O-Rankings to determine our default player rankings if we'd like. I know some people would prefer this option to using last year's overall rankings.
So all I'm asking for is a general consensus on whether to change the ranking system for default picks from Last year's Overall rankings to this year's O-Rankings.
Please reply below with your preference...
Again, the options are...
1. Continue to use last year's final overall rankings
or
2. Use this year's O-Rankings from the Yahoo! league site

I'm partial to using the more current ranking. I won't default any picks, but I would prefer that a team doesn't end up with someone like Fisher just because he hit a bunch of 3s at high percentage last year.

I vote to use this year's O-rankings, even if they can get ridiculous at times.

my vote is to keep it the same...... but i dont understand the 3 pick rule... why not just let the player pick any availiable player whenever they log on?

my vote is to keep it the same...... but i dont understand the 3 pick rule... why not just let the player pick any availiable player whenever they log on? Well, there's a couple of issues at work here. On the surface, we want people to to actually participate in the draft. We allow an 18 hour window to make your pick which I feel is generous. I would hope that every GM can at least check the boards once every day. If they are going away for a few days, then I'd hope they'd leave a list of prospective picks with someone to post for them should their pick come up. That said, historically we have been very lenient with allowing GMs to replace defaulted picks even past the 3 pick deadline. But the main reason why we instituted the 3 pick rule has to do more with fairness to the other GM's who actually checked in to make their picks. Let's say the default player is actually a player with some value instead of a player no one wants. So GM#1 defaults his pick and gets him. The draft continues and at some point 5 or 6 picks later that defaulted Gm shows up and changes his pick to a currently undrafted player. Every GM that drafted in the interim was denied the chance to draft the top default player and now he's back on the market. I would say that every GM who drafted after the default has a legit complaint if they actually wanted the default player. The 3 pick rule was instituted to prevent a big hassle of returning a default player back into the pool after denying any number of GMs the chance to draft him. Now, we have in the past discussed the possibility of not using a default player and simply pushing the delinquent GM's pick back until they actually show up and make their pick, but previous GM's chose to adopt the current model instead. If this is an issue you guys would like to revisit, we can do so for next year's draft. I'm all up for making changes to the system if there's enough demand for it. -L-Tax
